ETHNICGOODS invites applications for paid internship positions to begin as soon as possible. Each internship requires 120 hours, can be arranged full-time or part-time and can be done remotely. The interns will contribute to the building of a global dataset on nation-building patterns since 1945. They will help with the selection of ethnic and religious groups based on predetermined selection criteria and answer a questionnaire in an effort to identify crucial shifts in how nation-states manage diversity within their borders. This includes collecting information on group characteristics, schooling systems, and linguistic and religious policies.
Applicants should hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Humanities and ideally be studying or have completed a master’s degree in these fields. Candidates must have excellent research and analytical skills and be able to contribute to collaborative research projects. Given that the research focuses on state-minority relations across the world, we are looking for candidates who can read one of the following languages: French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin, or Malay. In addition, fluency in English is essential, both orally and written. An interest in ethnic or national politics is desired.
The successful candidates do not need to be based in Barcelona. Salary is commensurate with similar internship positions at IBEI. The intended start date is 15 January 2021.
Applications must be submitted by 13 December 2021 and should include:
- A motivation letter (1 page).
- Current CV including the names of two referees.
The application should be saved as one PDF document and sent to: lbertran@ibei.org (Laia Bertran, Project Manager).
