The EthnicGoods project was prominently featured at this year’s American Political Science Association (APSA) Annual Meeting and Exhibition, where our team presented two innovative papers that advance global understanding of nationalism, ethnic politics, and conflict. The conference brought together scholars from across political science, offering a valuable platform to introduce the EthnicGoods dataset and its research potential.
Our researchers Frank Borge Wietzke and Emre Amasyali presented two studies drawing on new global data and theoretical insights:
1. Varieties of Nation-Building: A Novel Typology and Global Dataset
2. A War of Words: Examining the Role of Language Status Grievance in Civil Wars
APSA proved to be an exceptionally fruitful venue for EthnicGoods. Numerous attendees approached Frank and Emre to express enthusiasm about the dataset and its research possibilities. Scholars from a wide range of subfields—including nationalism studies, political theory, and legal scholarship—highlighted the growing demand for robust, comparative data on ethnic and linguistic politics.
The strong interest at APSA underscores the central role that comprehensive global datasets can play in shaping future scholarship on nationalism, minority rights, and conflict. We are excited to see how researchers across disciplines will incorporate EthnicGoods data into their work.
