The EthnicGoods project was recently showcased at the International Political Science Association (IPSA) 75th Anniversary Conference in, held from September 11-13, 2024, in Lisbon. Chun-Ying Wu, a post-doctoral researcher with the project, presented a paper titled Varieties and Determinants of Minority Language Policy Regimes: A Global Perspective, co-authored with other members of the EthnicGoods team.

The paper explored global trends in language education policies using the NBP dataset, which provides detailed information on ethnic groups and policies across various countries. By employing this dataset, the research aims to understand how different political regimes influence the recognition and support of minority languages in education. The presentation took place during a panel on “Nationalism and Ethnicity in Democracy and Authoritarianism,” offering insights into the relationship between political systems and ethnic group dynamics.

The conference also featured a keynote by Prof. Adam Przeworski, who discussed the evolution of democracy and its role in managing political conflicts, adding context to the topics addressed in the EthnicGoods presentation. Chun-Ying Wu took the opportunity to introduce the NBP dataset to other scholars in the field, encouraging its use for future research in ethnic politics.

The EthnicGoods project’s participation at the conference highlights its ongoing commitment to advancing knowledge on ethnic policy regimes and promoting the dataset as a valuable resource for researchers worldwide.
