Here is the team during our meeting in Barcelona in April working on our dataset mapping variations in state policies aimed at creating national identification and loyalty among the people situated within the territorial boundaries of nation-states, which is almost complete.

This novel and original dataset will permit us to trace variations in nation-building strategies across different time periods, ethnic, religious and racial groups, and countries from 1945 to 2020.

Further, its historical perspective will enable us to discern the impact that different nation-building strategies have had on ethnic diversity, public service provision and conflict, allowing us to ask new questions and put old certainties to test.

We believe this insight will be tremendously useful to scholars of nationalism, ethnicity and development as well as policy-makers, NGOs and the general public interested in behind the scenes of nation-states.

More information coming soon.
